Rebel Squadon 2: Rogue Leader
Visually excellent Star Wars shooter.
Had great potential, with some great levels, but some very poor design stops it reaching the heights of Star Fox 64 – the first star destroyer level requires you to pick up hidden upgrades in previous levels to survive which should never be the case in a game, several levels have long easy sections then hard sections where you can die in seconds, making a frustrating experience that will have most people cheating. Could have been great which is a shame.
6.5/10
Eternal Darkness
Average action adventure game with tedious fmv, poorly playtested and lacking any real quality.
The spells system is innovative but poorly explained in game, the sanity meter is clever but rendered useless as your character develops and there are several points where you have to rely on FAQs or just experiement with every spell on items to progress.
5/10
Super Mario Sunshine
Awful game – all the frustrating bits of Mario 64, rubbish Yoshis, bad camera, frustrating jumps with no safety net and tedious collecting.
Played Paper Mario afterwards and that is a proper use of Mario and his universe.
2/10
Apocalypto
Very good, back to basics action adventure. Mel Gibson knows how to direct this type of movie, and despite some excessive violence at the beginning, he’s creafted an excellent stripped back tale.
